Maasin
City (March 9) -- The Social
Security System (SSS) has informed that
six (6) slots are allocated for the local

training program designed to cushion the
impact of the global financial crisis.
Rodrigo Gregana, SSS-Maasin
Branch Manager, told PIA in a phone call
last week that the special summer job
program is an initiative of the SSS, in
addition to the usual employment program
they supported, like the one spearheaded
by the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE) every summer for students.
According to an in-house
memorandum a copy of which was provided
PIA the objective of the program, which
targets some 2,000 students around the
country -- six of whom to come from SSS-Maasin
covered area -- is to provide "hands-on
training on administration and implementation
of social security programs."
Applicants must be an
"SSS member or are children of SSS
members."
One important qualification
is that "the applicant, or his/her
parent/uncle/aunt is separated from employment
within the last 12 months prior to the
filing of application due to closure,
downsizing or temporary suspension of
operations of the company as a result
of the present economic crisis, and is
currently not employed."
Also, he or she must be
computer literate, physically fit, at
least 18 but not more than 35 years old,
a Filipino citizen, a student enrolled
in any semester for the school year 2008-2009
in a school duly accredited by the Commission
on Higher Education (CHED), and has at
least one contribution as of December
31, 2008, as a member or as a child/niece/nephew
of an SSS member.
Deadline for screening
applicants will be up to March 20, and
the orientation of trainees will be April
1 at the Maasin branch, which covers the
whole of Southern Leyte up to Baybay,
Leyte.
Application forms can
be secured from the branch office or can
be downloaded from website at www.sss.gov.ph.
The documentary requirements,
aside from the application form, include
birth certificate taken from the local
civil registrar/NSO, latest school registration
card, SS Card/SS E1 of applicant, if already
a member, valid school ID, medical certificate
of physical fitness issued by a government
