Regarding sources of water & threat of landslide:
There is a big river in Lunas which flows down to Matalom, Leyte. We could tap some of the river into a small reservoir and also rely on the rain water and put it in a water tank. Although it is very expensive, we could also have an alternative deep-well pump just like they do here in some of the agricultural states in the U.S. far from the lakes and rivers.
After the landslide in St. Bernard, government scientists studied all the possible landslide prone areas in Region 8. The feasible sites of our self-sustainable community projects are too far away from the areas which the geologists declared as landslide prone. We visited the landslide striken villages in St. Bernard, Liloan and San Francisco, Southern Leyte. Personally, I think that even high school students who are very good in the required subjects in general science, math, physics and other scientific subjects know that upon close observations of the above-mentioned zones, they are indeed landslide prone.
